The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, AACRAO, is a non-profit, voluntary, professional association working to make higher education more responsive to learners.

Our association provides advocacy, research, and policy-based guidance and training to higher education professionals to smooth the path for learners at every stage of their journey.

AACRAO offers multiple ways for members to volunteer. Whether you are brand new to the organization or have been around for a while, whether you have plenty of time to spare or want to spend time with us whenever you can, we have a space for you.

Low Time Involvement Opportunities

Authorship

  • Author or Edit an AACRAO Publication - Author or edit a variety of reference resources for admissions officers, enrollment managers, and registrars.
  • C&U Author - AACRAO members submit articles pertaining to their own experiences with emerging issues or innovative practices within the profession.
  • SEMQ Author - Scholars and practitioners submit finished papers about strategic enrollment management.
  • Write for AACRAO Connect - This is AACRAO's biweekly professional development e-newsletter.

Conference Volunteer

Assist with in-person proceedings at AACRAOs conferences.

Participate

  • Conference Participant - Attend one of AACRAOs conferences hosted throughout the year.
  • Exchange Participant - Join in the conversation with other members in AACRAO’s online community forum.
  • Lead Contact - A vital partner in gathering data through surveys and other methods, and ensure the voices of their institution and profession are heard and represented in national research, policy, and task forces.
  • Webinar Participant - Attend one of AACRAOs webinars hosted throughout the year, covering topics related to technology, strategic enrollment management, admissions, FERPA, transfer, credential evaluation, and international education.
  • Voter - AACRAO voting members can interact with Association affairs through voting on leadership and bylaw changes and holding elective office.

Presenter

Share expertise at virtual convenings and webinars and at in-person conferences and gatherings.

     

    Medium Time Involvement Opportunities

    Caucuses

    • Chairs/Vice Chairs/Co-Chairs - Lead the AACRAO Caucuses, which are national networking and identity-based affinity groups intended to promote belonging and visibility in the professional field of Higher Education. They also submit sessions for the Annual Meeting.
    • Caucus Leadership - Members of the caucus who take on additional tasks in support of the caucus, such as coordinating caucus webinars.
    • Caucus Members - Open to all AACRAO members.

    Editorial Boards 

    Serve on the editorial board for either of AACRAO's scholarly journals, SEMQ (Strategic Enrollment Management Quarterly) or C&U (Colleges and University).

    Professional Activities Committees (PACs) 

    • PAC Leadership - Composed of a Chair and Vice Chair or two Co-Chairs, these committees guide the work of each PAC in submitting content for the Annual Meeting. The PACS are organized into groups in alignment with the Program Coordinators on the Program Committee.
    • PAC Members - Participate in all committee activities and help support the work of the PAC Leadership.

    Trainings

    • ASCEND
      • ASCEND Scholars - Participants in the program, who are mid-career professionals from diverse backgrounds. They learn leadership skills, have the opportunity to network, and learn from one another, expert coaches, and outside experts.
      • ASCEND Coaches - Serve as mentors, advisors, and educators for the scholars.
    • Baden-Württemberg Seminar Participant - Focuses on the German educational system, German-American academic comparability, institutional partnership development, and student exchange between Germany and the U.S.
    • Hill Day Participant - Members engage with Congressional offices to discuss their work and share their perspective, as practitioners, on how policy impacts the work they do daily.
    • Peer Mentors - Participants are matched with each other based on areas of professional strength and growth to help facilitate professional development.
    • SEM-EP
      • SEM-EP Evaluators - Review and provide feedback on learners’ deliverables.
      • SEM-EP Learners - Participants in the program who earn a formal recognition of an enrollment management skill set and work toward career advancement.

    High Time Involvement Opportunities

    Advisory Groups

    • Course Faculty - Help create AACRAO's online and in-person courses.
    • Curriculum Committee - Advises on curricular gaps and supports the recruitment of qualified subject matter experts for new curriculum development.
    • International Education Standards Council - Reviews and publishes advice through AACRAO EDGE on how to best understand foreign credentials in the context of the U.S educational system.
    • Public Policy Advisory Group - Provides an essential practitioner perspective on emerging legislation and public policy matters.
    • Research Advisory Board - Provides feedback and ideas to the Director of Research on research topics of interest to the membership.
    • SEM Conference Advisory Group - Shape the content and direction of the SEM Conference.
    • Tech Transfer Conference Advisory Group - Shape the content and direction of the Technology and Transfer Conference.
    • Technical Advisory Council - Responsible for tracking the rapid development of digital learner records and credentials in higher education to advise AACRAO's development of content, programming, guidance, and education to support the membership and the AACRAO's strategic priorities.

    Awards Committee

    Recognizes the outstanding professional development activities of AACRAO members, State & Regional Associations, and AACRAO contributors through a variety of awards. The Awards Committee also approves member applications for Scholarships and Grants to attend the annual meeting. 

    Program Committee

    Develops the program for the Annual Meeting by soliciting, reviewing, and selecting session proposals, assisting presenters with session development, and setting the final session program. Members of the Program Committee, called Program Coordinators, represent admissions, enrollment management, international education, academic service, leadership and management development, access and equity, and informational technology. 

    Programmatic Liaisons

    Task Forces and Work Groups 

    Board or staff established to conduct research and/or develop an AACRAO policy, guideline, product, or service.

    Foundational Involvement Opportunities

    Please note, all foundational opportunities require a high level of time involvement.

    Board of Directors

    Elected by the membership, they set policy and guidelines for the association.

    • Board Leadership - The AACRAO Board is led by the President, who is supported in their role by the President-Elect and Past-President.
    • Vice Presidents - Represent the different areas AACRAO supports including: admissions, enrollment management, international education, academic service, leadership and management development. access and equity, and informational technology. The Board also includes two Vice Presidents at Large and a Director external to the AACRAO Membership.

    Nominations and Elections Committee

    Elected by the membership, this committee solicits calls for nominations for the Board of Directors and for the Nominations and Elections ballot from the AACRAO membership. They also help conduct elections.

    Parliamentarian

    Acts as an impartial arbiter of the AACRAO Bylaws and Robert's Rules of Orders.
