Before this inaugural session at the AACRAO Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Conference, I had never participated in any type of “speed dating” activity. I had heard of speed dating and understood the basic concept: You have a certain amount of time (3-5 minutes) to meet several prospective “dates.” The Ten Minute Mentoring session at the conference was modeled on this concept.

SEM attendees were fully engaged at the Tuesday morning plenary session presented by Janet Hyde, President of Academic Strategies and former faculty at a number of Canadian institutions. Her topic, Post-Secondary Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, generated thinking and conversation about planning for the academy of 2030.

With a warmly enthusiastic crowd of over 120 SEM professionals in attendance, AACRAO launched the LEAD Initiative at a Monday night reception at the 2018 SEM Conference. The reception was hosted by AACRAO Vice President for Access and Equity Tiffany Robinson, Assistant Vice Provost/University Registrar at the University of Kansas and AACRAO SEM Advisory Board Member Dr. Tomikia LaGrande, Vice Provost of SEM at Virginia Commonwealth University, along with a diverse set of enrollment leaders.

Sterling, Assistant Dean for Student Services at Touro Law Center.
