…Turning a Bumpy Ride into smooth sailing
We were excited to discuss the upcoming #SEM2023 session "Navigating the Journey...Turning a Bumpy Ride into Smooth Sailing" with presenter Rebecca Hapes, Associate Registrar at Texas A&M University, this week and look at the tools her team uses to prevent burnout, manage stress, and increase effectiveness on their campus. Attendees to this session are invited to review their own practices and professional demands through this perspective and discover new tools they can implement when they return to their institution.
We started the interview by discussing her motivation for presenting on this topic at SEM to which Ms. Hapes responded:
This presentation content resulted from a time in my life when the combination of work and home felt overwhelming and I was racing towards burnout. I needed a positive way to reset my approach that would enable me to increase efficiencies, productivity, and bring peace into my life. Utilizing PEACE as an acronym, I developed a simple process and implemented strategies that allowed me to do just that.
Next, we looked at the key takeaways attendees should expect to take home with them when they leave the SEM conference. Ms Hapes reflected that:
I hope attendees reflect on their ‘why’ and utilize this simple process to implement strategies that align their perspective toward work with their personal ‘why’. Even small changes can make a big impact.
In closing, Ms. Hapes shared some of the feedback she has received from session attendees in the past when presenting on this topic.
