By Autumn Walden, Editor AACRAO Connect, and the Registrar 201 Faculty
It’s a privilege for our Program Committee of the 110th AACRAO Annual Meeting to offer you a selection of pre-conference workshops from valued practitioners and presenters in our community. More than just an “add-on” to your Annual Meeting experience, these intensive sessions are designed to provide hands-on learning beyond the general conference sessions. And here’s the best part—registration for the Annual Meeting is not required to attend a pre-conference workshop.
Take "Registrar 201: Strategic Work and Leadership as a Registrar" as an example. Led by a cross-institutional group of registrar faculty—Keisha Campbell, Helen Garrett, Rebecca Mathern, and Alex Underwood—this pre-conference workshop builds on foundational knowledge, offering real-world strategies and expert insights. Past attendees rave about the practical takeaways—don’t miss your chance to gain the skills and confidence to excel in your role. To give you a better idea of what to expect, we asked the presenters to share more about their team’s session.
Registrar 201:
Our Reg 201 session is an in-person, two-day pre-conference workshop on March 29 and 30 at the 110th AACRAO Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington. We designed it for seasoned professionals in the field. However, if you are a new leader, have recently taken on additional responsibilities, or would like to sharpen your skills as a professional in the world of registrar work, you will benefit from attending.
Prepare to dive into content related to AACRAO proficiencies and core competencies, compliance issues, and leadership trait development. We will spend two days on these topics, including learning about hands-on strategic planning tools that you can take back to your institution.
As faculty of this workshop, we asked past participants about their experience and if they would recommend it to others. Here are a few quotes from some participants.
Jamie from Stetson University says:
“REG 201 as a pre-conference experience was invaluable. The faculty-led sessions are a unique balance between deep and thought-provoking, such as becoming a disruptive innovator, to immediately applicable topics, such as being a compliance-conscious registrar. The concepts discussed can be scaled for large or small departments. The course is interactive which led to many connections among participants that continued long after the two-day workshop. I found this to be an investment in myself and for my institution.”
Joel from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga says:
“REG 201 encompassed all the best elements of a professional conference in a two-day intensive experience. Whether you enjoy expert panels, birds of a feather, or presentations from seasoned leaders of the profession, you’ll experience all of those in REG 201. I regularly reference materials and concepts from the workshop as I lead my office. As new adventures are added to my plate, the preparation from REG 201 bolsters my confidence that my instincts align with best practices in the profession.
Colleen from the University of Minnesota says:
"I cannot recommend Reg 201 enough. The instructors were approachable, insightful, and highly entertaining. I left with a notebook full of ideas and invaluable connections. This course is not to be missed!"
We hope you have a better sense of what you may gain from participating. There’s still time to reserve your seat. Register for the Registrar 201 pre-conference workshop, or add it to your ticket today.
