What if this could be the year?
The year you take steps to experience an in-person, cross-cultural learning experience with the opportunity to engage with educators at a range of institutions. If this is the year you apply for the Baden-Württemberg Seminar, you may come back with new opportunities for your institution’s students.
The Baden-Württemberg Seminar is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Arts in Baden-Württemberg, Germany with the participation of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators. The Ministry of Baden-Württemberg covers lodging, most meals, and program-sponsored travel. The only cost to the participant’s institution is travel to and from Germany for the seminar.
Getting There
Each year approximately 12-15 applicants are selected to participate in a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the German educational system, which includes comparing the American and German systems and their student exchange processes. Participants travel to and learn about different types of educational institutions at all levels of education and engage with German higher education administrators.
Study abroad officers, international student advisers, admissions officers, registrars, and all staff with responsibility for postsecondary-level exchanges and/or institutional relationships are encouraged to apply for the seminar. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and Arts does have partnerships with several states, and applicants from these states are encouraged to apply. These include Oregon, California, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Participants of past webinars have shared their enthusiasm for the program, including the following comments:
A great example of transatlantic cooperation...[the seminar enables] American Administrators' insight into the higher education landscape...
Apply -- you won't regret it!
I have been grateful all week to attend this seminar, and after seeing how much went into it, how many people contributed, and how much I learned, I am in awe. It’s amazing that I have been allowed to see the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg in such an immersive way. It’s amazing how generous the Ministry is. For my first trip to Germany this has been quite the experience. I will have such fond memories of this trip and this place. I am so glad I came.
All applicants for the seminar must either be AACRAO or NAFSA members. No more than one application per institution will be considered. Application requirements also include a CV or resume as well as a letter of support from one’s supervisor. The application is now open and all details can be found on AACRAO’s website. The application deadline is June 20, 2022.
