Doug Hartnagel has been involved with AACRAO for over 34 years.  He began his career at Florida International University and continued to work in higher education until his retirement.  Upon retirement, Doug made the decision to volunteer with AACRAO to teach online courses.  As a volunteer instructor, Doug taught the Admissions Counselor/Recruiter 101 and the Managing the Admission’s Office courses.

Over the last 10 years, these courses have allowed him to give back to AACRAO by drawing from his own professional experiences to teach those who are new to managing in the admissions office. As students complete their coursework, they typically discuss questions or issues facing them that have allowed him to share from his own inexperience to provide lessons and answers. Instructing the courses has also allowed him to facilitate networking opportunities for online students in the US as well as for students from around the world.   The opportunity to share knowledge has truly allowed Doug to help enhance the professional lives of AACRAO colleagues.

Recently, Doug made the decision to step down from his role as an online instructor to allow another AACRAO member the opportunity . Doug says the experience is rewarding and allows for the instructor to share knowledge with AACRAO members who may not be able to attend conferences due to time or money constraints.

"If you’re near retirement or thinking about retiring and want to stay connected and to help the profession grow, consider becoming an online instructor,” Doug says.

By becoming an online instructor, you have the chance to better AACRAO and contribute to the improvement of higher education. For information about teaching online courses, contact Linda Smith.

AACRAO wishes Doug all the best in his retirement!
