AACRAO is excited to announce the formation of a new caucus group: The AACRAO Young Professionals Caucus.
AACRAO's Caucuses are networking and affinity groups designed to promote diversity and equity in higher education. These groups are led by
member volunteers to support the mission and strategic plan for the organization, and to apply best practices, develop new ways of thinking about and doing our work, and identify strategies for success on campuses. Participating caucus members
come together to share experiences and enhance the AACRAO knowledge base, increase the value of AACRAO membership, and facilitate the growth and professional development of peer members.
To serve emerging leaders in the profession, The Young Professionals Caucus seeks to provide a network & peer connection resource for AACRAO members. Entering into the profession can be intimidating and sometimes overwhelming. Young professionals
also have unique questions regarding furthering their education, balancing work and young families, etc. The Young Professionals group seeks to provide a non-judgmental space for members to ask questions, network, and share experiences with a group
of their peers. The caucus also seeks to provide mentorship for new professionals to seek guidance from those with more extensive experience in working in a Registrar’s office or in enrollment management.
The Young Professionals Caucus was championed by AACRAO member Kelsey Simonson, who herself entered the profession at a young age and has advocated for young professionals
by sharing her AACRAO experiences:
My goal in creating this caucus is to provide a welcoming environment for young professionals to integrate into AACRAO and their profession. I want to create a dedicated space where there is no such thing as a stupid question, where people can network, and come together in a community to share the somewhat unique struggles of being a young person in higher education administration.
The AACRAO Young Professionals Caucus group contributes to AACRAO’s mission and vision by supporting young leaders in the profession and advancing the diverse and interconnected community of higher education. The group also supports AACRAO’s
goal to advance the knowledge and understanding of the complex and critical professional engagement in enrollment and academic services by providing connection and mentorship opportunities and facilitating a talent pipeline within the profession.
The Young Professionals Caucus welcomes AACRAO members under 40 years of age. The Young Professionals Caucus does not seek to be exclusionary, but rather provide
a comfortable environment to seek assistance and ask questions among peers in the profession.
