By Chris Huang, Vice President for Information Technology, Board of Directors, AACRAO, and Kristi Wold-McCormick, President, Board of Directors, AACRAO
Did you know that the Governance Committee of the AACRAO Board of Directors has been busy reviewing and proposing updates to the AACRAO Bylaws? This work has been part of a three-year project involving AACRAO’s attorney, parliamentarian, and the Governance Committee.
The Governance Committee is proposing 16 bylaw changes with the following goals:
Reducing litigation risk/exposure
Streamlining AACRAO Bylaws and moving operational items to the Board of Directors Handbook
Ensuring AACRAO Bylaws are evergreen
The Governance Committee is responsible for ongoing review and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the Board of Directors. This includes, but is not limited to, assessments, orientation, policies, procedures, handbooks, and committee structure and development.
Since changes to bylaws affect membership, the Committee is sharing the proposed bylaws changes and requesting input from the membership through online feedback forms, town hall meetings, articles, and emails beginning in December 2024.
The AACRAO Board of Directors will host two identical AACRAO Town Hall meetings via Zoom to share the proposed bylaws changes and receive member feedback. Voting members can provide feedback or comments on the AACRAO Exchange online community for those who cannot attend the town halls.
January 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. EST
February 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. EST
After the membership feedback period, the proposed bylaws changes will be presented to the Board of Directors for a vote at its February 2025 meeting, followed by a vote of the membership at the 111th AACRAO Business Meeting.
Voting members can find more information about the proposed changes, timeline, and feedback opportunities on the AACRAO Exchange.
AACRAObats, we want to hear from you. Make your voices heard.
