AACRAO's History In The Field
AACRAO has a long history documenting, training, and developing best practices in foreign education, admissions, and records. While there are references in AACRAO’s archives from nearly 100 years ago, the work began to accelerate after World War II and with the ensuing Cold War with the Soviet Union. The growing number of international students and scholars led to the desire for more understanding and guidance of documentation, validation, and recognition. The United States, unlike the rest of the world, does not have an agency with functions similar to a Ministry of Education. AACRAO, along with a handful of other associations, worked on filling those needs.
In the decades since, AACRAO has provided research, publications, in-person, and hands-on training, and a dynamic Electronic Database for Global Education (AACRAO EDGE). As we continue to provide the information our membership, agencies, educators, and nations need to ensure global mobility and international admissions we are offering updated and enhanced Institutes and On-Demand Learning.
