fafsa calendar information

Beginning on Oct. 1, 2016, students will be able to fill out the FAFSA for the 2017–18 school year. (In the past, they had to wait until January 1). In addition, applicants will no longer need to estimate income and tax information and will be able to retrieve their data directly from the IRS, right from the first day the FAFSA is available. Students also will have information about their Expected Family Contributions earlier, helping them as they’re going through the college application and selection process.

Directory Information, the Census, and FERPA

July 19, 2021

Free Webinar | 2:00-3:00 pm ET
As letters from the Census Office arrive on campus asking for your assistance in providing information for off-campus students, AACRAO has become aware that requests for gender, race, and ethnicity data are included for optimal collection. While collecting information for the census is critical for determining representation and the allocations of federally funded programs, including those in higher education, it is important to remember - gender, race, and ethnicity are not directory information.

Join LeRoy Rooker, former Director of the Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policy Office and AACRAO Senior Fellow, and William Gil, AACRAO’s Director of Government Relations, for a discussion on what student information institutions can share with the U.S. Census Bureau, while still being in accordance with FERPA regulations.
