The Accelerator initiative seeks to promote the adoption of Learning and Employment Records (LERs) in post-secondary education (PSE) by addressing various challenges hindering their implementation.
Key Challenges
Slow adoption of innovative credentials
Administrative and technical barriers
Uncertainty about market demand
Policy inertia
Interoperability challenges
The initiative aims to overhaul the educational credential, create awareness of the need for skills centered credentials, reduce the obstacles to adoption, develop guidelines for universal usage, foster collaboration among educational associations, and demonstrate successful models and examples that accelerate the creation and issuance of quality credentials in higher education.
Key Goals
Expanding awareness of LERs
Sharing best practices
Establishing integrity in LER-credentialed systems
Promoting interoperability
Addressing technical hurdles
Envisioning long-term changes in the higher education landscape
There is a key set of post-secondary campus stakeholders who are responsible for implementing an LER at an institution. They are practitioners, and as a result, they hold the key to moving the needle on PSE adoption of LER.
No single organization has the resources to accelerate the pace of post-secondary LER, however a coordinated collaboration among these stakeholders is the only way to move the LER needle in higher education.
