Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that this land, the traditional territory of the Massachusett people, has been inhabited and stewarded by them for over 13,000 years. As we gather, we recognize and honor the diverse Nations and peoples who have lived here, including the
Abenaki, Micmac, Maliseet, Narragansett, Nipmuc, Passamaquoddy, Pawtucket, Pennacook, Penobscot, Pequot, Wampanoag, and others who may have been omitted due to historical erasure or our own limitations.
We acknowledge the ongoing impact of historical and systemic violations of sovereignty, territory, and water against the Massachusett and other Indigenous communities over the past 400 years. We extend our deep respect to the citizens of these Nations
who live here today, their ancestors who have cared for this land for over 500 generations, and to all Indigenous peoples. We recognize that this acknowledgment is just a small step and does not rectify the harm that has been inflicted and continues
to affect Indigenous communities and their lands, waters, and air.
Note: This is a modified version of the land acknowledgment originally provided by the Upstander Project a Boston-based organization committed to challenging indifference to injustice by raising awareness and sharing resources.
