Opposition to Trump travel ban grows as key court decision looms

Ten former high-ranking diplomatic and national security officials, nearly 100 Silicon Valley tech companies, more than 280 law professors, and a host of civil liberties and other organizations have formally lent their support to the legal bid to block President Trump’s immigration order.

The new voices demonstrate the broad opposition to Trump’s now-frozen order, which had temporarily barred refugees and people from seven Muslim majority countries from entering the United States. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals could decide on Monday whether to restore the ban, which a lower court judge had brought to a halt.

Earlier Monday, the states of Washington and Minnesota filed papers with the court urging the judges not to overturn that lower judge’s ruling. Reinstating the ban, they wrote, would "unleash chaos again" and hurt the states’ economic interests.
