ITT Tech Stops Enrolling New Students

ITT Technical Institute is not enrolling new students, the for-profit educator announced on Monday.

The halt in enrollment comes days after the Education Department barred its parent company, ITT Education Services Inc., from enrolling students with federal financial aid, and increased the amount of cash it must send the department.

In response to a request for comment, a spokeswoman for the company said only that "we have voluntarily suspended new student enrollment as we assess our options."

The department’s action last week reflected a continued crackdown on for-profit colleges. Another company, Corinthian Colleges Inc., folded last year after increased federal scrutiny.
