The Supreme Court heard oral arguments a second time in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, a closely watched challenge to the race-conscious admissions policy at that institution, on Wednesday morning. The last time the court decided the case, two years ago, the justices ramped up the pressure on colleges to explain the rationale for such policies. More recently, the case has taken on new significance because of rising student demands for more diversity on college campuses, though the court’s decision in the case — expected next summer — seems unlikely to satisfy those demands.
