Another Lawsuit Is Filed Against the For-Profit Corinthian Colleges

Who wouldn't have wanted to enroll at Everest College in Milwaukee? Its owner, the for-profit Corinthian Colleges Inc., touted a national job placement rate of 80% to 90% to prospective students.

But according to a civil lawsuit by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the figure was really as low as 5% for students from Everest, who rarely got the externships promised as part of their training, and if they did, discovered the externships were merely to do unskilled tasks unrelated to their coursework.

In announcing the lawsuit Monday, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said Corinthian engaged in misleading, false and deceptive trade practices. It seeks restitution for some of the affected students and graduates, as well as fines and fees.
