Seven months after the White House hosted a well-publicized summit on expanding college access, the Obama administration announced on Wednesday plans to convene a second gathering of higher education leaders this December.

According to a White House statement, the summit will focus on "building sustainable collaborations in communities with strong K-12 and higher education partnerships to encourage college going, and supporting colleges to work together to dramatically improve persistence and increase college completion, especially for first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students."

The announcement comes as White House advisers and Education Secretary Arne Duncan on Tuesday hosted several dozen community college leaders to discuss remedial education best practices, Inside Higher Ed reported. The administration also won 14 new commitments by community colleges to expand college readiness for underprepared students.

The summit will be held on December 4.
