Compass with the needle pointing at the word "strategy."

With the leadership of board vice president Luke Schultheis, particularly in his role as chair of the board’s Strategic Planning Committee, the AACRAO Board of Directors had a rich discussion of what might be on the horizon for our profession in higher education.

The conversation included:

  • the role of research in positioning the efforts and outputs of the association.
  • the reliance and interdependence of various professional positions within our sector.
  • opportunities as well as expectations of the membership on the association leading national discussions relative to several important emerging topics.
  • the need to expand programming in various forms to multiple membership constituencies, some of which are constrained financially from participating in our national conferences.
  • the possibility of creating repositories of studies, data and programming which could be accessible to members through a variety of formats over extended periods of time.

This is a small sample of the dialogue that took place. Next steps for the Board are to further message the ideas and then make the appropriate adjustments to the strategic framework within which the association operates.
