The AACRAO 2021 Session, To Badge or Not to Badge: A Micro-Credentialing ConversationPresented by Micro-credentials Manager Noah Geisel and University Registrar Kristi Wold-McCormick

Join the micro-credentialing and badging journey of one institution. Presenters from the University of Colorado Boulder will share how the campus went from mild interest in micro-credentials to funding a full-time position in the Office of the Registrar to manage the campus’ micro-credential initiative.

While the campus initiative is new and rapidly evolving, Micro-credentials Program Manager Noah Geisel and University Registrar Kristi Wold-McCormick will discuss the many considerations that have, to date, gone into building the infrastructure and foundation for these new credentials. These include decisions related to badging standards, frameworks, proposal/approval processes, communication plans, systems, vendors and budgets.

They’ll also share their strategy to educate the campus community on the advantages of micro-credentials how they have garnered support for the initiative by campus leadership.

Finally, the presenters will provide their thoughts on the important role that registrars can and should play in campus micro-credential initiatives. Participants will be encouraged to share and engage, and will leave the sessions with a better idea of what micro-credentials and badges are, how they might help implement or support these efforts on their campuses, and how these credentials not only benefit learners, but institutions and employers as well.
