The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO) and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (SACRAO) have long held a special relationship whereby information and best practices are exchanged among colleagues with a spirit of renewal and collegiality. AACRAO continues to send a member of the Board of Directors to the SACRAO Annual Meeting to share national updates on policy, AACRAO happenings, and present for the conference.
SACRAO invites AACRAOans to submit relevant research for publication. The SACRAO Journal highlights topics of interest to the joint memberships of AACRAO and SACRAO. To access past journals, visit http://sacrao.org/?p=newsjournal.
For example, last year's journal included the following topics, among others:
- Staff perceptions of work environment. The study found that relationships, praise, alternate work schedules, attending conferences or professional developments, and open communication were listed as effective ways to boost morale.
- Transitional challenges for international student athletes. Researchers found that universities can assist international student-athletes by providing more counsel prior to and upon arrival at the institution, offering early one-on-one conversations with advisors pertaining specifically to cultural differences, providing administrative staff to assist with tax compliance and social security paperwork, and--most importantly--offering mentoring from an older international student-athlete.

ïA unique feature of the SACRAO Journal is the Margaret Ruthven Perry Distinguished Journalism Award, an annual award given to an author who exhibits excellence in research and writing.
Are you interested in showcasing your research? If so, the SACRAO Journal Editorial Board is planning for the 2016 SACRAO Journal, and welcomes manuscripts for this academic, refereed publication. Manuscript drafts are due August 14, 2015. Interested authors are encouraged to submit articles which pertain to their professional and research experiences regarding issues and innovative practices in the profession.
Preference is given to articles authored by SACRAO members, but articles from outside the membership will be considered based on revelatory findings that advance the work of all professionals in our field.
To submit an article for the Journal, pose questions, or discuss a manuscript idea, please contact Journal Editor Dr. Jacquelyn “Jacqui” D. Elliott at 314.516.6454 or elliottjac@umsl.edu.
