"Meet the AACRAO Staff" is an occasional Connect feature. It’s one way for members to get to know some of the folks hard at work in the AACRAO office. Come to the Annual Meeting this April in Baltimore, MD and meet some of the AACRAO staff in person!

How did you start working at AACRAO?

I started at AACRAO as an intern while I was attending American University’s Washington Journalism Semester in fall 2001. I continued to work part-time for AACRAO as I finished my degree at Ithaca College and then came on full-time shortly after that.

What is your day-to-day as a Managing Editor?

I focus a lot on author recruitment, so I look for content relevant to our publications and help writers prepare and submit manuscripts. In addition, I coordinate all aspects of the production of our journals, including submission, editing, design, layout, printing, and publishing. I am very proud of the recent C&U Journal, as it includes an insightful interview with long-time C&U editor-in-chief Louise Lonabocker by Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith, C&U’s new editor-in-chief.

What will you be doing at the Annual Meeting?

I will be presenting at the Annual Meeting with AACRAO staff members Janet Szamosszegi, Linda Smith, Brooke Barnett and Martha Henebry on how members can increase involvement with AACRAO, be it through writing an article or book, presenting at meetings, hosting a webinar, or teaching an online course.

I attend as many sessions as I can at the Annual Meeting to hear about current research in the field and to see what presentations might be of interest as topics for our journals.  Since I work off-site in New York, this meeting also gives me a chance to connect with staff members who I don't get to see on a daily basis.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I have two daughters who are active in sports, so I spend a lot of time at tennis and soccer practices. We are lucky to live in a vibrant college town, with many interesting things to do.  For example, we recently discovered how fun it is to watch Cornell polo matches. We have a golden retriever who is almost two-years old, which has been a new, fun adventure. I love to read, especially books about food and culture, and I practice yoga regularly.
