AACRAO’s LGBTQIA Caucus hosted July’s book club, a discussion about Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home, a graphic memoir that attempts to make sense of her father’s life, death, and queerness. (Read the blog recap.) This was the last LGBTQIA Caucus event hosted with co-chairs Paul McCarty and Holly Halmo.
New caucus chairs are taking the reins: Tammy Johnson, Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Services at Marshall University and Chris Dorsten, Executive Director of Enrollment Operations and Registrar at Cuyahoga Community College.
For more than 20 years, Johnson has worked at multiple institutions, in various areas of higher education, including student affairs, athletics, admissions and enrollment management. She is an active member of AACRAO, having twice served as Chair of the AACRAO Admissions Policies and Practices Committee. Her areas of research interest include issues related to equity and access for all underrepresented populations, with published work appearing in The Chronicle of Higher Education, SEMQ, the NASPA sponsored book Increasing Adult Learner Persistence and Completion Rates: A Guide for Student Affairs Leaders and Practitioners and, most recently, in the AACRAO book Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Student Body.
Dorsten has worked in higher education for the past 20 years and currently serves as the President of OACRAO (Ohio). Dorsten has been an active member of AACRAO, previously serving as Chair of the Community College Issues Committee and presenting at the annual meeting. Dorsten has two Associate Degrees from Sinclair Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Park University, and a Master’s Degree from Cleveland State University.
