Diversify your international student population through capitalizing on scholarship opportunities for both international and study abroad students. This ongoing resource will from AACRAO International will highlight opportunities by focusing on particular regions. First up: The Gulf.
Bahrain offers scholarships targeted to Bahraini graduates of government schools and some private schools with a GPA of 90% and above on their Secondary Certificate. They streamlined the process by making it internet-based in 2008: students can find the guidelines and application in one place and, based on their application, are directed to relevant scholarships in their area of specialization/interest. Students can apply at any time from June through September, and they can change their first choice of interest as many times as they would like in that time period.
One scholarship of note is the Crown Prince’s International Scholarship program, which was established in 1999 and is privately funded by His Royal Highness Prince Salman, various local and international sponsoring organizations, and individuals “
who share HRH’s vision of equipping outstanding young Bahrainis with the necessary tools to excel and achieve their aspirations and contribute to the building of a modern Bahraini state."
The program provides ten fully funded university scholarships for young men and women from both public and private secondary schools, based on their academic merit. Sponsored scholars not only meet with the Crown Prince during holiday breaks, but a minimum of 60 candidates for the scholarship undergo educational workshops and trainings as part of the selection process.
