by Paul Kyle, AACRAO VP for Leadership and Management Development
One of the hot topics for AACRAO over the past few years has been professional competencies – what are the key components of the profession, and what skills should practitioners possess or try to develop?
The AACRAO Board of Directors established initiatives within the AACRAO Strategic Plan as a result. For the last two years, the Board has engaged the Professional Activity Committees (PAC) leadership in the development of core competencies in the Enrollment Management, Admissions, and Registrar venues. Board members working in coordination with Executive Director Reilly have taken the feedback from the leadership groups to develop a working template of core competencies that could be utilized by the AACRAO membership.
The Board’s goal is to have a draft, to be reviewed by the PAC groups, of possible core competencies and proficiencies by the annual conference. But one of the long term goals is that the competencies can also drive the development of program content in line with those core competencies and proficiencies.
