Working with governmental agencies means navigating a complex labyrinth of rules and regulations. For that challenging journey, the Higher Education Compliance Alliance offers a much-needed map”an online repository of more than 500 authoritative compliance resources, organized by topic, such as affirmative action, copyright, immigration, grants, research and tax compliance, to name just a few.
"Federal regulations impact nearly every dimension of the operation of a college or university," says Mike Reilly, AACRAO executive director. "Higher education professionals shoulder a tremendous level of responsibility to insure that their institution is in compliance with these regulations. The Higher Education Compliance Alliance provides a great collaborative resource to help AACRAO member institutions understand and meet their regulatory obligations and, in turn, we can share our expertise and make the collaboration even stronger."
What is the Compliance Alliance? And how much does it cost?
The Compliance Alliance is a clearinghouse of high-quality resources to help college and university administrators comply with federal laws and regulations. Much of the material available on the site is free.
Contents include pamphlets, news articles, handbooks, toolkits, detailed conference outlines or manuscripts, training materials, and white papers. Many can serve as comprehensive, stand-alone compliance guides on a specific topic. Some are password-protected and available only to specific association members, or for a fee.
The site provides information about specific compliance obligations and tools for achieving compliance”not advocacy or policy positions.
Where does the information come from?
Spearheaded by the National Association of College University Attorneys (NACUA), with initial support of 20 other higher education associations, the Compliance Alliance is now comprised of 29 partner associations, including AACRAO—all focused on providing the most comprehensive resource available.
“The Higher Education Compliance Alliance underlines the critical importance of collaboration among a wide range of higher education associations in serving the needs of our member colleges and universities as they seek resources to meet their compliance obligations,” said NACUA CEO Kathleen Santora. “The success of our effort is a tribute to the generosity of my wonderful colleagues in the 28 associations who have joined with NACUA in this important partnership.”
