Note: The deadline for the Call for Proposals for the 2015 Annual Meeting in Baltimore has been extended to this Friday, May 9.
Up to your eyeballs in work? Then it's the perfect time to get a little perspective. Sometimes, higher education professionals can get so busy with day-to-day commitments that we forget to look around.
But often, taking a step back can be a great way to get a clearer picture of what is and isn't working in your office.
Start by asking yourself these questions:
1. In what ways does our staff excel? Consider the projects, relationships and achievements of your professional unit.
Make a point to acknowledge the accomplishments, effort and skill of your colleagues. Try not to offer empty praise--be genuine and specific in your feedback.
2. What challenges do we face? Define the struggles that your office faces--the problems you have yet to solve. Look at the solutions you've tried so far and consider what has worked best. ïRemember--it's likely that your counterparts at institutions across the country are facing similar issues and coming up with unique answers of their own.
Now, share what you do best--or teach what you've learned. Submit a session for the 2015 Annual Meeting in Baltimore! The deadline has been extended to this Friday, May 9th.
Planning is already underway for our 101st Annual Meeting, April 12-15, 2015, at the Baltimore Convention Center. The Call for Proposals is only open for a few more days.
If you aren’t quite ready to do a formal presentation, then consider doing a Poster Session. View suggested session topics and guidelines, and submit your session proposals today!
