Did you know that AACRAO is your go-to resource for evaluating unfamiliar foreign credentials? It’s not nearly as daunting as you might think.

Enter EDGE: The Electronic Database for Global Education

EDGE brings you the most up-to-date resources on changing standards and practices in education systems around the world. Collaborating with the independent International Evaluation Standards Council (IESC), EDGE provides credential advice (including possible placement recommendations) plus the background knowledge necessary to appropriately situate a credential within its native system - the context you need to make informed decisions that will impact international students’ standing. Access your new/existing EDGE account here.

EDGE offers credential advice for more than 240 countries/systems around the globe.

To ensure that you maximize the utility of EDGE, we offer hands-on learning opportunities at the Institutes for International Transfer Credit, informing you of applicable standards and practical tips for evaluating foreign credentials. Our next offering is from January 23-26, 2017, in Alexandria, Virginia and includes trainings on commonly encountered educational systems and the countries most likely to wind up on your desk. We invite you to peruse the schedule and join us in January.

EDGE gives you the tools to succeed; Institutes train you on how to improve your skills.

In addition to being able to evaluate an individual’s credentials, you need to know conclusively that the credential in question is recognized by an appropriate body and the issuing body is authorized to do so. To that end, we are researching and rolling out explicit information on how to verify resources, all organized by country/system within the database. So stay tuned: we want to streamline and simplify your efforts to determine the validity of credentials. You’ll soon be a one-stop shop with EDGE at your disposal.

EDGE provides the independent standards and background necessary for true credential evaluation for employment, transfer credit, or admission decisions.

What’s coming down the pike?

We regularly receive questions from around the world related to EDGE and its contents. Whenever a new credential is issued or a system is reorganized, questions are bound to come up. As an EDGE subscriber, you get the benefit of being able to reach out to us for guidance on these situations; we synthesize an assortment of opinions from professional credential evaluators, institutional representatives and other experts to provide you with the correct reply. Coming soon, in an effort to keep you abreast of changes in the database and in global higher education in general, we will publish On the Cutting EDGE, a newsletter highlighting the biggest updates within the database and topics for discussion that will be impacting your office soon.

Do you have other requests/suggestions for us to improve EDGE? Subscribers, keep your eyes peeled for a short survey in your inbox next month, but if you can think of something now, please drop us a line at edge@aacrao.org. We want to ensure you keep your EDGE in the field.
