In memory of Alan Margolis (1938-2016)

Alan Margolis, a long time contributor, author, and consultant in international education passed away on February 17, 2016.  He served in many capacities for both AACRAO and NAFSA.  Beginning in the early 1970s Alan was involved in the World Education Series and in the Joint (AACRAO and NAFSA) Workshops.  He was co-author for The Admission and Placement of Students from Argentina, and the author of Education in Nigeria, and United Kingdom: Medical Laboratory Science, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, both volumes from the World Education Series of AACRAO. 

Alan also served on various committees: the National Council on the Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials; the World Education Series Committee, and the National Liaison Committee among others. He had a 50-plus year career in education for the City University of New York, was in the first-ever class of the Peace Corps in 1961, where he traveled to Nigeria to teach English for two years. He wrote several books on Nigerian education and continued to support education for international students who wanted to study in the United States.

He served as mentor and friend to generations of those involved in the evaluation of foreign educational credentials and international admissions. 

A  scholarship fund for students in need of financial support specifically from Africa has been established in his name through the City University of New York.  Please send donations to:
