AACRAO International held its 11th Annual Winter Institute for International Transfer Credit in Alexandria, Virginia on January 23-26, 2017.

Throughout the four-day training, thirty-nine participants from a variety of U.S. higher education institutions explored the best methods and principles for calculating international transfer credit. The institute was structured around how to calculate transfer credit from the following educational systems:

  • U.S. Based Systems – Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, China
  • Latin America – Brazil & Mexico
  • Bologna – Europe
  • U.K. System – England, Nigeria and India
  • The Soviet System – Russia
  • The French System – France & Francophone Africa

Attendees were given the opportunity to work in groups to determine how many credits to award on sample documents. They also explored the basics of foreign credential evaluation and the mechanics of transfer credit.

Two-day China & India Intensive

With China and India being the top sending countries, AACRAO International will host a separate two-day intensive workshop on March 20 & 21, 2017, in Washington, DC, to address the following questions:

  • Does determining transfer credit from Indian marksheets ever seem challenging?
  • What am I supposed to do with three-year Indian bachelor's degrees?
  • What is an I.C.A.I. Foundation Exam from India and how do I evaluate it?
  • How do you evaluate self-study programs from China?
  • What are best industry practices when evaluating TNE (transnational education programs) in China?
  • How do I determine if I should grant credit for Summer programs in China?

From self-study and TNE programs in China, to AICTE and NIEIT credentials from India, the Workshop will apply best industry practices and resources to determining comparability and transfer of credit from credentials from these countries. Learn more about the Institute and register here.
