Two AACRAO members were recently selected for the International Education Standards Council (IESC) as Fellows for 2018. IESC is involved in the research and publication of international resource materials and the approval of placement recommendations.

“The IESC received applications from a number of qualified candidates for the IESC Fellow which made our job of having to select only two difficult," said Jasmin Saidi-Kuehnert, Chair of IESC-Edge. "The selection process took into consideration each applicant’s desire to develop his/her experience in international credential evaluation, as well as what each one can contribute to the field.”

Fellows will gain professional skills in credential research. In addition, their role will also lend transparency to the IESC’s deliberative process surrounding the evaluation of international credentials.

Meet the Fellows

Erin Hari, International Admissions Coordinator, Florida Atlantic University

Hari uses AACRAO EDGE daily to complete foreign credential evaluations because it's a regularly-updated resourse.

"I am excited to strengthen my knowledge of foreign educational systems while providing a service to the field of International Education," Hari said. "I hope to develop a stronger network of colleagues and build a better resource base."

Amanda Holder, International Evaluation Specialist, Baylor University

In a field that's constantly changing, Holder strives to stay up-to-date on international credential evaluation so that she can better serve students.

"I’m excited to learn from seasoned professionals who have many years of experience working with international curriculums and education systems," Holder said. "Specifically, I can’t wait to gain a greater understanding of best practices and policies so I can incorporate them into my work."

Fellows' responsibilities

Each year, one or two Fellows will be selected from an applicant pool to serve as non-voting participant-observers of the IESC. (See the call for applications.) The Council holds bi-weekly teleconferences as well as occasional in-person meetings throughout the year, to discuss and deliberate on credential advice in the AACRAO EDGE country entries. Fellows will attend these meetings, actively participating in the research leading up to the meeting agenda, and also may contribute to future white papers or other Council activities.

Concurrently, Fellows would be placed on the International Publications Advisory Committee (IPAC) which (along with other AACRAO Group II committees) participates in Annual Meeting session planning and other activities of the committee including EDGE-related support tasks. Many of these acts represent an opportunity for publication and recognition in the field.
