AACRAO is excited to announce the creation of a Fellowship position to serve on the International Education Standards Council (IESC).  IESC was established in 2001 to meet the changing needs of the AACRAO membership interested in international education. The committee is involved in the research and publication of international resource materials and the approval of placement recommendations.

In 2014, the AACRAO International Education Task Force reported to the AACRAO Board of Directors that there was a need for mentorship and other professional development opportunities for relative newcomers to international education -- “the ‘rising stars’ within AACRAO,” as Director of Evaluations for International Education Research Foundation (IERF) Emily Tse said. This position is designed to help meet that need.

The Fellows’ role will not only enhance the individual’s professional skills in credential research, but will also lend transparency to and illuminate the IESC’s deliberative process surrounding international credentials and their comparability within the U.S. education system.

Responsibilities

Each year, one or two Fellows will be selected from an applicant pool to serve as non-voting participant-observers of the IESC. The Council holds bi-weekly teleconferences as well as occasional in-person meetings throughout the year, to discuss and deliberate on credential advice in the AACRAO EDGE country entries. Fellows will attend these meetings, actively participating in the research leading up to the meeting agenda, and also may contribute to future white papers or other Council activities.

Concurrently, Fellows would be placed on the International Publications Advisory Committee (IPAC) which (along with other AACRAO Group II committees) participates in Annual Meeting session planning and other activities of the committee including EDGE-related support tasks. Many of these acts represent an opportunity for publication and recognition in the field.

How to apply

Those wishing to be more involved in AACRAO Group II activities in general and international credential evaluation research in particular are encouraged to review the application to learn more about qualifications and expectations.

“Many veterans in the field of international education research were truly fortunate to have been enriched by the past Projects in International Education Research (PIER) process that sadly disappeared over time,” said Robert Watkins, Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Texas at Austin. “The IESC Fellow concept is one way AACRAO can work to continue and expand on those past professional development opportunities.”

Qualified candidates should be in their first five years of international credential evaluation. For further details, read more and apply here.
