College & University (C&U) concluded its “50 Years of FERPA” series with a special interview in the fall issue with LeRoy Rooker, who recently retired as Senior Fellow in AACRAO’s Research & Policy Division. Rooker is the nation’s leading authority on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a comprehensive federal law that provides privacy protections for student education records.
The interview, conducted by AACRAO’s Assistant Director of Public Policy Michael Bilfinger, highlights Rooker’s journey from 21 years as Director of the Department of Education’s Family Policy Compliance Office (FPCO) to Senior Fellow at AACRAO and now AACRAO FERPA Consultant.
When asked what he enjoyed about working in higher education, he said: “It’s pretty consistent; it’s the people. It’s the great people. And that goes for when I started and still today.”
The “50 Years of FERPA” series also featured the following articles:
How to Adopt the “FERPA Perspective” When Evaluating Disclosures of Student Records by Margo Landy
