On November 12, 2013, the Institute of International Education together with the U.S. Department of State presented results of the Open Doors 2013 Survey during the briefing for International Education Week at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.   Findings presented by IIE show a continual rise in the number of international students who come from abroad to study in the U.S.  Over the course of the year, the number of international students has increased by 7 percent as compared to the previous year.  Roughly, around 49 percent of international students come from China, India and Korea, which makes these the top sending countries of international students to U.S. higher education institutions.

This year, the discussion of the survey focused primarily on increasing the number of U.S. students choosing study abroad programs, as well as encouraging students to choose less conventional study abroad countries to expand  the global awareness.  The number of U.S. students studying abroad increased by 3% last year.

With the growing number of students coming from abroad, universities often face the challenge of evaluating foreign transcripts.  AACRAO IES is proud to be hosting the 8th Annual Winter Institute for International Transfer Credit.  Each year, this training draws attendees from various institutions and provides an in-depth study of incoming academic records and transfer credit practices.  To learn more about the training or to sign up, please click here

For those who are not able to make it, AACRAO IES also offers on-site training and consultations for office restructuring. If you have questions, or want to learn more about these training, please contact Tiffany Hsu at 202.263.0290 or hsut@aacrao.org
