November 16, 2015, marked the annual Open Doors Briefing, which took place at the National Press Building in Washington DC.  This event marks the tremendous efforts by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Institute of International Education (IIE) to understand trends in international students studying in the US, as well as students going abroad.

The theme of this year’s briefing is “Advancing Access for All.” Here are some of the major takeaways from the briefing:

  • 974,926 international students studied at U.S. colleges and universities in 2014-2015.
  • The number of students choosing to study in the United States from abroad increased 10% in 2014-2015.
  • 58% of international students originate from China, India, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia.
  • The top four fields of study for international students are Engineering, Business and Management, Math and Computer Science, and Social Sciences.

ïAACRAO IES is hosting the 10th Annual Winter Institute for International Transfer Credit on January 15-19, 2016. We will be covering transcripts from the top sending countries according to the report. New to this year’s training are two intensive workshops focusing on China and India exclusively.  To learn more about the training, please click here.  Only a few spots remain open!
