Whether you’re an expert at public speaking or are considering presenting a session for the first time, submitting a session proposal may seem like a daunting and time-consuming task. However, the effort you spend developing an idea for consideration can lead to positive outcomes for your professional development.

6 Reasons to Present a Session

Presenting at a conference is a unique opportunity to:

  • Share & Learn: Are you on the cutting-edge of technology or have you implemented a program that can be applied at other schools? Your knowledge and hands-on expertise can generate valuable discussion and tangible content for your colleagues to take back to campus.

  • Collaborate: Team up with your co-workers and discuss what’s happening in your department, or reach out to colleagues at other institutions to develop a panel discussion on a topic that impacts your institutions—in both similar and different ways.

  • Advocate: Your presentation can be a catalyst for advancing your profession and promoting recent research and developments in your field.

  • Hone Your Skills: Presenting a session keeps your public speaking skills sharp, and constructive feedback from audience members can help you become better prepared for your next session.

  • Network: Your presentation shows that you are at the forefront of profession. You’ll meet others with similar interests and develop professional contacts for future research collaboration or job opportunities.

  • Contribute: The involvement of content experts in creating and shaping the program leads to the overall success of the meeting.

Not Ready to Take the Full Plunge?

So you’re interested in presenting, but are a bit hesitant. Consider developing a poster session. This foray into presenting allows you to have casual conversations and directly engage with conference participants with a poster display that captures your topic and ideas in printed text, graphics, tables, and images.

There are options for everyone who is interested in sharing their knowledge, best practices, case studies, and experiences. The call for proposals for the 2020 Technology & Transfer Conference and the 2020 Strategic Enrollment Management Conference (poster submissions available) are open. Submit your session ideas today.
