Since the start of the September academic year, the reform of the PACES has applied to all French universities. The major challenge: to abolish the numerus clausus applied until then. The number of students who can access the second year is now set by the universities themselves according to their capacity. The process is modified, but the principle of selection after the first year remains valid.

Students at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will have their route to advanced certification shortened from four years to three. Starting next year, 16 ITE courses will transition to a curriculum structure that will see students go straight through to Higher Nitec courses and earn the certification in three years.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled the 2021 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal Unity Colleges from May 29 to June 5. The written Abitur exams in Hamburg expired under special conditions due to Covid-19 2021. Mathematics and English written exams were better this year than the year before. According to the school authorities, the number of students has increased, especially in math, compared to the 2020 Abitur class.

Secondary school graduates will not take their final exam, known as “maturita” in Slovak, this year. The decision was adopted due to the current developments with the Covid-19 pandemic. The final exam should reflect their four-year work, the Education Ministry suggested.
