A Tale of Two Private Catholic Philadelphia Universities: Internal Environment Factors that Influence Market Position Differentiation

This article explores the internal environmental factors that affected organizational change at Joseph’s University and Villanova University — two private Catholic institutions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — resulting in differentiated market positions at each institution. Research methods included archival document analysis and semi-structured interviews. Findings show that influential leaders, purposeful change, and organizational culture affected organizational change at Saint Joseph’s and Villanova.
