Albanian Ministry of Education Postpones Start of Academic Year

The 2021-2022 academic year for pre-university students was pushed back to late September. The country-wide lockdown that lasted between March and May 2020 forced many public schools to shut classes early. The 2020-2021 academic year saw a mix of online schooling and in-person learning with shortened schedules.

Students taking the O, N and A levels this year will not be tested on some topics covered towards the end of their syllabus, said Education Minister Chan Chun Sing. The Ministry of Education (MOE) had announced that common last topics would be removed from this year's Primary School Leaving Examination. Last year, common last topics were also removed from the national exam due to the pandemic.

Leaving Cert students to get their results later than usual on September 3

Leaving Cert results will issue to more than 60,000 students on Friday, September 3. It is later than the traditional mid-August date, but slightly earlier than 2020, when calculated grades, now called accredited grades, were used for the first time. A later release of Leaving Cert results will mean a tighter timeframe for the CAO college offer entry process, but colleges are putting plans in place.

Lebanon will not hold official Brevet exams/Grade 9 exams this year, revealing a proposal to “cancel it permanently for the coming years so that students do not remain hostage to political and economic fluctuations.” The decision to cancel the Brevet exams takes into consideration the national certificate’s state on one hand, and Lebanon’s public health situation on the other.
