In his chapter titled “Integrating Evolving Perspectives: The Roots and Wings of Strategic Enrollment Management,” Stanley Henderson (2012) provides an excellent analysis of the genesis of strategic enrollment management (SEM) and its progression
through forty or so years as a profession. He describes a profession born out of necessity which remains critical to the overall decision making on college campuses. Henderson credits the many men and women who have nurtured the profession through
the trials and tribulations that refined it into what is now called strategic enrollment management.
