The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the Royal Decree establishing the organization and the minimum teachings of Baccalaureate . These changes will be implemented in the academic year 2022-2023 for the 1st year of Baccalaureate and in the 2023-2024 academic year for the 2nd year.
The rule sets, among other issues, the promotion, evaluation and certification of students.
In relation to the degree, the rule establishes that students can obtain the degree when they pass all the subjects of the cycle. However, it maintains the exception of being able to achieve it with a slope, if the teaching team so decides, in case it considers that it has achieved the objectives and competencies; that he has not been absent continuously and unjustified from class; that you have taken all the exams; and that the average of the marks obtained in all subjects is equal to or greater than five.
Thus, a student who has passed all the subjects except one, may take the Baccalaureate Assessment for University Access (EBAU), if he meets these requirements.
Regarding promotion, students will go from 1st to 2nd when they have passed the subjects studied or have a negative evaluation in a maximum of two subjects.
Another novelty is that, although passing the 2nd year subjects will be conditional on passing the 1st year subjects , students may enroll in 2nd year subjects without having studied the corresponding 1st year subject "provided that the teaching staff considers that the male or female student meets the necessary conditions to be able to successfully follow the subject of the second year". Otherwise, you must take the 1st year subject.
The evaluation will be "continuous and differentiated according to the different subjects" and it will be the teacher who will decide, at the end of the course, if the student has achieved the objectives and has reached the appropriate degree of acquisition of the corresponding skills.
The text also states that students will be able to take make-up exams for those subjects they have not passed, another significant difference with respect to ESO, where this type of test is eliminated.
Exceptionally, students are allowed to take the Baccalaureate in three courses instead of two, in those that require it due to their "personal, temporary or permanent circumstances" . It refers to those who attend the stage simultaneously with professional music education, those who are high-level or high-performance athletes, or those who present a specific need for educational support.
FIVE MODALITIES OF BACCALAUREATE
The Baccalaureate from now on will have five modalities : Sciences and Technology; Humanities and Social Sciences; two baccalaureate degrees in Arts (one in Plastic Arts, Image and Design and the other in Music and Performing Arts); and another General. Where they are taught, will be decided by the autonomous communities.
All students, regardless of the Baccalaureate they choose, will take Physical Education in the first, Philosophy in the first and History of Philosophy in the second, History of Spain in the second, as well as Spanish Language and Literature and Foreign Language (normally English), both in the first and in second. Being taught in both courses, they will be the ones with the most hours, with 210 each. The rest will have 70 hours, except Physical Education, which will have 35 hours.
HISTORY OF SPAIN IN 2ND ONLY FROM 1812
One of the controversies surrounding the new curriculum is the content that will be taught in History of Spain in the 2nd year, since these will only focus on the contemporary stage, since 1812, contrary to what is happening now: the entire History of Spain is given , from prehistory to the present.
A novelty included in the rule is that when the offer of subjects in a center is limited for organizational reasons, it will be easier to take a subject online or in other centers. In addition to the common subjects, students will have to take other specific subjects, to be chosen by the student, depending on the Baccalaureate modality they choose. Each modality subject will be taught for 87.5 hours.
In the Science and Technology modality, students will take Mathematics I and the remaining two will have to be chosen from a total of four that are offered, among which are Technology and Engineering or Biology, Geology and Environmental Sciences. In Humanities and Social Sciences, they will be able to choose Latin I or Mathematics applied to social sciences I, and they will have to choose two others, which can be from World Literature, to Greek I or Economics. Second, they will be able to choose from Company and Business Model Design, to Geography or Art History, among others.
Students who opt for the Plastic Arts, Image and Design modality will have to take Artistic Drawing in first and second, in addition to two other subjects such as Audiovisual Culture, Artistic Projects or Volume. For their part, Music and Performing Arts students will take Musical Analysis I or Performing Arts I first , as well as two other subjects, which may be Choir and Vocal Technique I, Audiovisual Culture or Language and Musical Practice. Second, they can study History of Music and Dance or Dramatic Literature.
As for the students of the General Baccalaureate , they will take General Mathematics first, and will have to choose two other subjects, one of which may be Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Activity. The other or two others, if you do not take this subject, may be any of the first-year modality subjects that are taught in the other Baccalaureate modalities. In the second year, they will study General Sciences and two other modality subjects, one of which may be Cultural and Artistic Movements. The other or others will be from other modalities of Baccalaureate.
In total, the curricular design is made up of 42 subjects , between common subjects and the modality to be chosen by the students. The Executive expresses its will that the Baccalaureate incorporate the gender perspective and promote equality. This approach is included in practically all subjects, such as, for example, in the History of Philosophy where authors such as Hypatia of Alexandria, Mary Wollstonecraft, Hannah Arendt or Simone de Beauvoir will study.
With the approval of this Royal Decree, the regulatory development of the new Education Law (LOMLOE) ends, as the one referring to Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education has also been approved.
