The joint evaluation tests for the new baccalaureate in Première and Terminale are canceled in favor of continuous assessment as Covid-19 cases continue to rise. This news comes after the country originally criticized the scheduled exam dates as it fell during the Reunion school holidays.
The joint evaluation tests for the new baccalaureate in Première and Terminale are canceled in favor of continuous assessment, announced Jean-Michel Blanquer.
The announcement was made this Thursday evening, November 5, 2020 by the Minister of Education.
He specified that this decision aims to take into account the consequences of the current health crisis on the preparation of the bac.
Jean-Michel Blanquer also announced a strengthening of the health protocol in high schools, in particular by giving them the option of switching more to distance learning.
Since the return of the All Saints holidays, discontent has risen in France to denounce a health protocol deemed, by many, insufficient in high schools with often crowded classes.
The measures in place since the start of the school year "are obviously more difficult to apply in high school, where student movements are more numerous and more frequent, and the organization of school catering more complex
", admits the minister in a letter sent to school heads, after consulting the trade unions.
In order to limit the risks of contagion of the virus, "it is now necessary for each high school to establish an educational continuity plan, implemented until the next school holidays, which guarantees at least 50% of face-to-face teaching for
each pupil", he asks.
"
All students must work for all of their regular school time, whether in class, in virtual classes or independently," he says.
But each establishment can organize itself as it wishes
, favoring "reception in half-groups", "reception by level" or "remote work one or two days a week".
Jean-Michel Blanquer asks that "particular attention be paid to vocational high schools for which the implementation of distance education is made more complex".
Taking into account the grades of the school report
At the same time, "to take into account the consequences of the health crisis on the conditions of preparation for the general and technological baccalaureate", the Minister also decided on measures, "on an exceptional basis", for this year 2020-2021,
which was to fully enter into force the new bin.
The common evaluations (formerly called E3C) planned in Première and Terminale will be canceled and replaced by continuous assessment thanks to the taking into account of the grades of the school report.
This measure concerns history-geography, modern languages, and the specialty that is not pursued in Terminale, as well as mathematics for the technological path and scientific education for the general path.
The final exams on specialty courses scheduled for next March will be maintained but their modalities adapted.
