The Assembly of the Republic approved this Thursday, with votes against the PS, the carrying out of national exams to improve the internal classification in secondary education, a possibility that was not foreseen in the scope of the exceptional measures due to the pandemic.
The final text presented by the Committee on Education, Science, Youth and Sports was approved in a final global vote at today's plenary meeting, with the favorable votes of the two non-registered deputies and all parties, with the exception of the PS, which opposed the measure.
The measure is the result of initiatives by the PSD, CDS-PP and by the People-Animals-Nature (PAN), voted in general two weeks ago.
Similar to last year, this year the Government also decided to cancel all assessment tests and final exams for the 9th grade, due to the covid-19 pandemic, keeping only the national secondary exams.
However, the executive's exceptional measures provided that these exams would only serve as entrance exams for higher education, not being counted in the average internal classification and, therefore, final year students would not have the opportunity to improve that grade.
