South Africa Basic Education Minister announced that the matric examinations, the math paper 2 and the physical science paper 2, will have to be rewritten due to exam leaks.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has announced that due to leaks with matric examinations, the maths paper 2 and the physical science paper 2 will have to be rewritten.
The department said more than 190 pupils had access to the maths paper 2 exam but it was not sure about the extent of the leak.
The maths paper 2 will be rewritten on 15 December and physical science will be rewritten on 17 December.
A man linked to the maths paper 2 leak has been arrested. It is understood he works for the company that was contracted by government to print this year’s matric exam papers.
Motshekga said following an assessment of the leaks, it was concluded that the integrity of the exams was compromised.
“We agreed that there must be a national rewrite of both maths paper 2 and physical sciences paper 2. It’s the first time in our history that we have a national rewrite. It’s a very difficult decision and I must say, a very sad decision
to take,” the minister said.
