This Wednesday, the application process for the new Higher Education Access Test (PAES) was closed, a test for access to higher education in which more than 275 thousand people signed up.
According to the Ministry of Education (Mineduc), the 275, 085 registered for this year reached a figure similar to that of 2021 (275,630), but with a positive nuance, since now 71.9% of the students are part of the promotion of this year (197, 704), while in previous process those who were in 4th grade represented 67.9% of the registrations.
"For this process, we see an increase in the number of students enrolled in the promotion of the year compared to the PDT of December 2021. Specifically, we have 10.546 4th grade students more than last year. This shows that, despite the changes in the Access System and the consequences of the pandemic, the student body is interested in this process and they have met the headlines, said the Undersecretary of Higher Education, Veronica Figueroa Huencho.
The director of DEMRE, Leonor Varas, added that "we are very satisfied with the number of registration this year. We know that it is a year full of challenges and changes, both in the tests and in the Access System, but young people continue to project themselves in higher education, which makes us happy and is good news for the country."
