The Education Ministry announced yesterday that the Advanced Level (A/L) examination would be held from October 12 to November 6 while the Grade Five Scholarship examination will be held on October 11.
Education Ministry Secretary Ranjith Chandrasekara told a news conference that the decision to postpone the examination was taken based on data of a survey conducted with the participation of students, teachers and principals.
He said the survey was conducted with a sample representing all nine provinces and added that the students had requested for a month’s relief period. Mr. Chandrasekara said school holidays for the second term would begin on October 9 and end on November 16.
He said classes for Grade 11, 12 and 13 will begin on July 27 and all the other classes will begin on August 10. Commissioner General of Examinations Sanath B. Pujitha said the A/L examination would be held as usual because students would get adequate time to complete the syllabus.
