From house to house, and through posters and flyers distributed in the Metro , the capital authorities have launched a campaign to ensure that around 150,000 people aged 15 and older complete their high school studies between July and September of this year .
To meet this goal, the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Community Education Subsystem "Pilares", the Institute of Upper Secondary Education (IEMS) and the Police Career Directorate, of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), have various modalities through which people interested in completing their studies at that school level can take and obtain their certificate.
In a press conference, the head of the local Education Secretariat, Ofelia Angulo , explained that the campaign will promote such modalities that consist of the “Pilares” Online Baccalaureate; the Police Baccalaureate; the Single Exam “High School” (EMS), the modular EMS process and the semi-presential IEMS, with the objective that in the capital the average degree of schooling be 12 years.
“Currently we have 11.7 years; that is, people who are in the third year of high school, but have not finished it, we want them to finish, we are giving this push so that it is finished, and that is why we have this campaign 'Finish your High School', we need a little less than 150 thousand people to take ownership of these strategies that we are going to share with the citizens and be able, then, to obtain their high school diploma and go from 11.7 to 12 years of schooling on average,” Angulo reiterated.
For his part, the head of the "Pilares" Community Education Subsystem, Javier Hidalgo, emphasized that the campaign is aimed at relatives of young people who come to take the Comipems exam, who have had their education cut short and who can finish high school through the options offered by the local government.
“Starting this Monday we will begin the door-to-door dissemination of “Termina tu Prepa” in Pilares. This will involve visiting all the neighborhoods and colonies, especially those with low academic achievement, to show off and present the offer that Pilares has to them. We have 298 Pilares and each one has a Cyber School, and with that, we are talking about almost 10 thousand computers with free internet, and 1,191 teachers specialized in Science, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering are already prepared, another one in Science, Biology, Chemistry and Health, another one in Social Sciences and another one in Humanities and the Arts,” Hidalgo explained.
In turn, the general director of the Police Career of the SSC, Alejandra Ramírez, pointed out that from 2021 to date, 238 uniformed officers have graduated from the Police Baccalaureate, and currently 161 elements are taking it, so they hope to add more police officers this year, starting with the second edition of the 2024 Call, which will be issued next July.
“We want to invite the entire population here to finish high school, those who have not started, those who are entering high school; those who have already studied but have not finished, to finish so that we can continue to advance towards Mexico City as the entity with the most schooling in the entire country,” reiterated the Head of Government, Martí Batres.
