The digitization of the tests is part of a government mission to, among other things, make test grades fairer.
"Digitalization increases the possibility of more fair test grades because the students' answers are completely anonymous and are assessed by more teachers than before," says Marcello Marrone, head of unit at the Swedish National Agency for Education and Training and responsible for the introduction of digital national tests at the agency, in a press release.
The digital tests cannot be distributed in advance, which reduces the risk of cheating. The fact that the students' answers are anonymous makes the assessment more fair and the teachers' work is made easier by automatically correcting certain parts of the tests.
From autumn 2026, certain parts of the tests will be assessed centrally, to further strengthen the equivalence of the assessment.
