Schools will have a budget of 6.5 million euros for the purchase of new computers, revealed this Monday by 'Jornal de Notícias': the measure, approved by the Council of Ministers last Thursday, aims to replace the equipment damaged or in no condition and thus allow the carrying out of assessment tests (2nd, 5th and 8th years) and national tests for the 9th year, which will be in digital format this year.
“The budget now approved, in excess of 6.5 million euros, aims to allow schools to replace computers that are
inoperative because their repair is not viable or worthwhile”, said the ministry of João Costa, who recalled that, within the scope of the 'Digital School' program, one million computers have already been delivered to students and teachers.
The budget, the ministry highlighted, aims to provide schools “with all the conditions to carry out tests in digital format”.
It is recalled that the General Inspectorate of Education and Science (IGEC) recently carried out an action in 55 schools to evaluate the performance of national tests and exams. Flaws were detected in 45% of schools – 25 –, the majority of which concern the performance of invigilator teachers, which, for IGEC, causes concern.
With regard to the final exams of basic education and national exams, no failures were reported in 61% of the schools visited by inspectors, an improvement compared to 2022, which had reached 56%.
In the measurement tests, the results are more worrying, as irregularities were not flagged in only 27% of the interventions – in 2022, it was 64%, “which denotes a worsening of the schools' performance”, indicated the IGEC report.
