The National Examinations Council (NECO) has indefinitely postponed its 2024 staff promotion exam.
The promotion exercise had earlier been scheduled to hold on February 14 and 15 in Minna, Niger state.
NECO staff members from different states were expected to converge at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna for the exam.
In a statement on Friday, Azeez Sani, NECO’s acting director at the directorate of information and digital communication, said the examination has been put on hold.
Sani said the postponement complies with the directive of the committee on basic examination bodies of the House of Representatives.
“The postponement complies with the directive of the Committee on Basic Examination Bodies of the House of Representatives as contained in a letter referenced NASS/HR/10/CT.20/64 dated 9th February 2024,” the statement reads.
“The Committee has also scheduled a meeting with the Registrar/CE of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi for Monday 19, February 2024.
“With this development, all NECO Staff who are due for promotion this year should note that the exercise has been put on hold indefinitely.”
The House of Representatives had earlier faulted the decision of the exam body to bring about 1,500 staff to Minna for the exercise.
The lawmakers said NECO should conduct the promotion exam at its zonal offices because of the security and economic situation of the country.
