Morocco’s ministry of education announced on Tuesday the extension of the 2021-2022 school year by a month, and exams are scheduled for July 2022.
After postponing the start of the academic year to October 1, the ministry reported that second-year baccalaureate students in the literature branch will sit their exams from June 23 to 24.
Meanwhile, second-year science and technology baccalaureate students are expected to sit for exams from June 20 to 22, with the retake session scheduled for July 15 and 19.
Middle schools will have the ninth-grade exams on July 6 and 7 while sixth-grade students in primary schools will sit their final exams on July 7.
Classes will begin for elementary, middle and high school students on October 1, while non-formal education - all initiatives and measures taken by the government seeking to reduce illiteracy rate in the country - will launch the first class on October 4.
The official school curriculum will begin on October 11, meaning the first week of school will focus on reviewing previous lessons, improving students’ performance and focus, and preparing them for the challenges to come once the school year actually starts. Initially, the academic year was scheduled to start on September 10, but the peak in the number of COVID-19 cases in July and August compelled the government to postpone.
Last year, Morocco suspended schools and postponed classes due to the pandemic, but the country reinstated in-person education in 2021. And when parents were given options to choose between remote learning or face-to-face classes, most of them chose in-person education.
